Kalamaki is characterized by the vast sandy beach, right in front of the village which stretches across the bay of Mesara. At the beach are protected areas for the sea turtles Careta Careta.
It's one of the few places in the world where the sea turtles Careta Careta lay their eggs. The organisation ARCHELON is trying to protect them.
A few meters away you can find the beach of Komos. It is one of the official recognized nudist beaches.
